FMS Library Media Center Policies

Hours of Operation:

7:45-2:45 Monday through Friday
Before and/or after school if prior arrangements have been made with Mrs. Plumer

Library Cards:

Given to students during their first class in the media center;
Placed in the back of the student’s planner.

Students can come to the media center:

Daily during homeroom, after reporting to their homeroom teacher and getting their planner signed;
With a signed planner from a classroom teacher, depending on the media center schedule;
Students must have a purpose—to read, work on a project, get a book, etc.;Students may visit only one time per day on a pass

Loan Policies:

Students can check out up to three items;
Items include books, past issues of magazines (one at a time), books on CD or playaways (one at a time);
The loan period is three weeks;Items may be renewed unless another student has reserved the item;
Reference books may be checked out at dismissal and must be returned by the end of homeroom the following morning;
Students with signed parental permission will be able to borrow Kindles loaded with ebooks. The loan period will be three weeks.


Overdue items have a fine of ten cents per day per item with a cap of $5.00 per item;
Overdue reference books have a fine of twenty-five cents per item per day with a cap of $10.00;

Fines for overdue Kindles will be $1.00 per day with a cap being the total cost of the Kindle plus loaded ebooks.

Students with fines of fifty cents or less may still borrow materials for the first three quarters of the school year, but should pay the fines as soon aspossible; during the fourth quarter students with fines of any amount will not be able to borrow materials;

Students with overdue items and/or fines of over fifty cents must return the items and pay the fines in order to borrow additional materials;

Materials that are returned damaged, with missing barcodes or jackets, etc. will have fees assessed, depending on the severity of the damage, rangingfrom $2.00 up to the entire replacement cost of the book.

Students who lose materials will be charged the replacement cost of the book plus a $1.00 processing fee (per HCPS policy)

Overdue and fine notices will be sent to the students via their ILA teacher


School computers are for school related work. Students may work on projects/assignments during homeroom, or other times of the day, with a signed planner. During homeroom students may play Cool Math or First in Math as long as the computers aren't needed for school projects.
Students must speak with either Mrs. Plumer before using the Internet. Students should also ask before printing.
